Mr John's Garden
Our client, Mr John, wanted his urban garden transformed into both a functional family space and a peaceful retreat. The design connects seamlessly with the house, creating an inviting outdoor room.
The garden was restructured with defined zones for dining, entertaining, and relaxation. A central seating area, framed by timeless hard landscaping and softened with lush planting, provides year-round interest while maintaining privacy and intimacy.
Carefully chosen paving complements the home’s architecture, while evergreen hedging and seasonal perennials bring structure, colour, and vibrancy. Discreet lighting extends the garden’s use into the evening, highlighting key features and enhancing the atmosphere.
The result is a modern yet timeless garden — practical, elegant, and perfectly suited for family life and relaxation.
A key design decision was to create a central seating area that serves as the heart of the garden — a welcoming destination surrounded by lush planting and positioned to feel both connected and private. By bringing the planting close to the home, the design ensures year-round interest and a sense of immersion in nature, with the entire garden on display from the house.
Seasonal planting adds rhythm and colour throughout the year: fresh greens and blossoms in spring, vibrant perennials and soft textures in summer, rich tones of grasses and shrubs in autumn, and evergreens with winter highlights to keep the space alive.
